Getting involved can feel overwhelming.
It’s easy to wonder: Where do I even start?
The truth is, there’s no single “right” place to begin,
every small action you take matters, and every step is growth.
One step at a time
The most important thing is that you TAKE ACTION! Don’t Wait!
Stand up!
Your voice matters. Your action matters. Start today, and keep going!
Start by getting a friend or two together to discuss the issue. Attend local trainings & group discussions.
Each step builds your confidence and your understanding. Before you know it, you’re part of a community of people who care, who act, and who inspire each other to stay engaged.
So take that first step. Gather that group. Attend that meeting. Ask questions. Listen. Share ideas. Each small action is a action that builds our community and grows our movement
Here are a few ideas to kick things off and get you started:
➡️Attend Act for America Training Meetings
Participate in structured training sessions to build your knowledge through education, learn effective advocacy strategies, and develop skills for constructively arguing and confronting issues. These meetings also help you stay informed on key topics while connecting with others committed to engagement.
➡️Mobilize Your People Group
Start by bringing together your close circle of friends and family to focus on shared concerns and priorities. From there, develop simple, repeatable ways to stay engaged in everyday life—such as weekly check-ins, quick planning sessions, or shared message threads for coordination. Organize practical outreach activities like coffee meet-ups with new contacts, door-to-door conversations in targeted neighborhoods, hosting informal living room forums, and setting up recurring small-group discussions that make civic engagement a regular, ongoing habit rather than a one-time effort.
➡️Stay Informed with Reliable Sources
Regularly follow social media news outlets, trusted influencers (specializing in the topic of Sharia Law and Islam), and established conservative groups to deepen your understanding of Islam, stay current on policy developments, and ensure your involvement is grounded in solid understanding.
➡️Write the Planning Department
Contact the Colorado Springs Planning Department to express your concerns or opposition to proposed mosque development. This can be brief and concise with little time commitment. You can simply state you are "opposed" to the project and leave it at that, or you can provide a few reasons as to your concerns for the community. Anyone can send an opposition letter, regardless of where they reside. Many people have already started sending letters but we need MANY more! Make sure your email shows that your concerns about how this will affect our community, home values, American way of life and take a stance on this. Use your own words and concerns.

➡️Build Relationships with Representatives
Reach out to elected officials and maintain consistent, respectful communication about your concerns about Sharia Law and Islamic ideologies. Strengthen your influence by scheduling one-on-one meetings, presenting clear and well-researched positions, sharing personal or community impact stories, organizing coordinated outreach from your group, and following up regularly to stay on their radar and demonstrate ongoing engagement.
➡️Film Screening & Discussion
Organize a screening of a documentary or short film that highlights the issue followed by a guided discussion. Prepare questions in advance to spark meaningful conversation, and consider pausing at key moments for reflection. After the film, encourage participants to share reactions, connect the content locally and identify practical ways to take action.
➡️Engage on Social Media Thoughtfully
Use social media as a consistent tool for civic engagement by sharing verified information, highlighting local issues, and encouraging respectful dialogue. Post regularly about community concerns, respond to questions with credible sources, and help correct misinformation calmly and factually. Focus on building an informed online presence that encourages discussion rather than division, and amplify voices and events that encourage constructive civic participation.
➡️Attend Local Government Meetings
Show up regularly to city council, school board, or county meetings to stay informed on decisions that affect your community and make your voice heard during public comment periods. Go prepared by reviewing the agenda ahead of time, taking notes during discussions, and following up afterward with emails or conversations with officials. Over time, build consistency so you become a recognizable and informed presence in local decision-making.
➡️Evening of Prayer
Host a faith-based gathering centered on reflection, prayer, and discussion of Islam in contrast to Christianity. Invite participants to bring relevant scripture or devotional thoughts that connect to the issue. Include time for prayer, action planning and development of outreach opportunities- then TAKE ACTION!
➡️Track Legislation and Take Action
Stay actively informed about specific bills, policies, and regulatory changes by following legislative calendars, committee hearings, and official updates. Break down complex issues into clear points so you can respond quickly and effectively when key votes or decisions arise. Take action through targeted emails, phone calls, testimony, petitions, and coordinated group outreach to ensure decision-makers understand the community’s position at critical moments.
➡️Host Issue-Focused Gatherings
Invite friends, neighbors, or coworkers to discuss the issue in a private, safe setting. Build awareness and increase understanding regarding the issue and ensure participants understand the nuances of the issue (attend Act for America training sessions, connect with informed influencers, read educational books to become better informed
➡️Roundtable Discussion
Bring together a group for a structured, laser-focused conversation where everyone has a chance to contribute. Start with a brief overview of the topic and provide guiding questions. Close with a recap to identify common themes and plans of action
➡️Potluck & Policy
Host a potluck where each participant brings a dish and a willingness to engage in the discussion. Create a relaxed, welcoming environment where people can share a meal while diving into concerns and brainstorming solutions. Consider providing conversation prompts to discuss and ending the evening with a summary of ideas and potential next steps for involvement.
➡️Concerns Over Coffee
Create an informal setting at a home or local café where people can gather over coffee to discuss real concerns and solutions. Keep the tone conversational but purposeful by introducing a few key areas of focus or recent developments. Encourage participants to share their perspectives, ask questions, and leave with a clearer understanding of how they can stay engaged or get involved- ACTION is key.
➡️Outdoor Walk & Talk
Organize a small group to walk with a clear purpose— identify areas of key focus. Use the walk to align on priorities, decide who will contact officials, submit reports, or raise awareness, and leave with a defined plan to act rather than just discuss. Set follow up walks at the end of each time you are together.
